Olesya Stefanko (Ukrainian: Олеся Стефанко; (born June 25, 1988) is a Ukrainian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Ukraine Universe 2011 and represented her country in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant, where she was 1st runner up.

Early life

Born in Kolomyia in the Carpathian region of Ukraine, Stefanko was named Miss Odesa National Law Academy in 2008 as a student at the Institute of Prosecution and Investigation. She's currently pursuing a law degree in Odessa.^[2]

Miss Ukraine Universe 2011

Stefanko, who stands 1.77 m (5 ft 9 ¹⁄₂ in) tall, competed as one of 15 finalists in her country's national beauty pageant, Miss Ukraine Universe, held in Kiev on 11 December 2010, where she became the eventual winner of the title, gaining the right to represent Ukraine in Miss Universe 2011.^[4]

In September 2011, she finished as a first runner-up at Miss Universe 2011, the highest placement for Ukraine at Miss Universe pageants.^[5][6]

Petition to revoke title

In the hours following her naming as runner up in the Miss Universe pageant, vocal outrage on her use of the Russian language instead of the Ukrainian language (Ukraine's official language^[7]) sparked an online petition to revoke her title as first runner up in Miss Universe and Miss Ukraine Universe.^{[citation needed]}
