History

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is an event commemorating the Oklahoma City bombing. On April 29, 2001, the inaugural Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon was run. Called by organizers a "Run to Remember," the race was created, according to the official web site, for the purpose of providing financial support to the Oklahoma City National Memorial. It also serves as one additional means of offering comfort, strength, peace and hope to all Americans affected by what was truly a larger than life tragedy on a national scale.^[1]

The annual event has grown to over 10,000 participants and has been called one of the "12 Must Run Marathons" by Runner's World Magazine. The Oklahoma City National Memorial is the sole beneficiary of Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon event proceeds. The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon has contributed $2.175 million dollars to the Memorial since its inception.^[2]

Route

The starting line is on Robinson, between NW 6th and NW 5th at the east entrance of the National Memorial. The finish line is one block east, on Broadway between NW 6th and NW 5th.
