Qala i Naw Airport (IATA: LQNICAO: OAQN) is an airport serving the city of Qala i Naw in Badghis Province, Afghanistan.[1] It is also known as Qala Nau Airport.[2] It has scheduled services with Pamir Airways.[3] This airport is unique in the fact that the runway is actually a highway that is utilized when there is no air traffic. When aircraft arrive, Spanish soldiers close down the highway and it becomes a runway.[citation needed] The runway lies adjacent to a Spanish forward operating base (FOB).
