The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats are the athletic teams for Northwest Missouri State University, located in Maryville, Missouri. The Bearcats play in the NCAA Division II. Northwest is a founding member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1912 and has remained in the conference ever since. From its founding until 1937 it competed in the Amateur Athletic Union. From 1937 to 1957 it competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In 1957 it joined NCAA Division II. Northwest has appeared in seven Division II football title games (winning three) since 1998. The men's basketball team appeared in an AAU title game in 1930. The Bearcats have appeared in eight national title games (7 in football and 1 in basketball). It has won three.

The four trophies on the left are for appearances in the title games in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. Northwest made an unprecedented fifth consecutive national title game in 2009, which they won. The stick in the middle left is the Hickory Stick in the contests with Truman State.

The Bearcats have appeared in seven NCAA Division II national title games (and won three) since going 0-11 in Mel Tjeerdsma's first season in 1994. Bearcat Stadium built in 1917 is the oldest stadium in NCAA Division II.

Northwest has appeared in one national title and two Elite 8 title games.

Women's basketball

Northwest Missouri State University head women’s basketball coach Gene Steinmeyer will begin his ninth season on the bench for the Bearcats and his 24th overall. Steinmeyer guided Northwest to an NCAA tournament appearance in 2006-07 for just the fourth time in school history. The Bearcats finished 18-12 overall and 10-8 in the tough MIAA conference. After eight years at the helm, his record stands at .500 (113-113) at Northwest with 473 career victories. Last season, coach Steinmeyer grabbed his 100th Northwest victory with a 95-82 win against Montana State-Billings on Nov. 30.

Bearcat Stadium

Bearcat Stadium (formerly Memorial Stadium and Rickenbrode Stadium) is the football stadium of the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats in Maryville, Missouri and is the oldest continuous site for any NCAA Division II school. The Stadium was originally opened in 1917 as Memorial Stadium. It has a capacity of 6,500 and had lights and FieldTurf installed in the summer of 2007.

Bearcat Arena

The Arena is in Lamkin Activity Center, a part of the Ryland Milner Complex and is sandwiched between Bearcat Stadium on the west and the Martindale Gymnasium and the Robert P. Foster Aquatic Center on the east.
