Nicholas Hirshon

Nicholas (Nick) Hirshon (November 4, 1985), born and raised in New York, is an author, journalist and professor. He is the author of "Images of America: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum" (the first volume on the premier sports and entertainment arena on Long Island), and also wrote the foreword for "Flushing: Then & Now." He has been a reporter for the New York Daily News since 2005. Hirshon also teaches as a professor for Journalism and English at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City.

Early career

Hirshon began polishing his writing skills from his high school years, writing news, entertainment and sports stories for a chain of weekly newspapers called the Queens Ledger. He later became the editorial page editor of the St. John’s University student newspaper, the Torch. He also wrote articles on baseball and hockey that appeared on Yahoo! Sports and in the now-defunct newspaper New York Sports Express.

Honors

Hirshon won the Historic Districts Council’s Friend in the Media Award in 2010.
