The project was first announced on August 27, 2010, by president of CBF Ricardo Teixeira, the governor of São Paulo, Alberto Goldman and the mayor of São Paulo Gilberto Kassab, with a planned opening date of 2013. The stadium is intended to have a capacity of 48,000 spectators, with 20,000 additional seats during 2014 FIFA World Cup in order to hold the opening game.[4][5]
