Neochori (Greek: Νεοχώρι meaning new village) is a village and a municipal district in the municipality of Orestiada in the northern part of the Evros Prefecture in Greece. The municipal district includes the village Patagi.

Geography

It is just 7 km west of the centre of Orestiada. Neochori is linked with road connecting the GR-51 (Alexandroupoli - Orestiada - Nea Vyssa - Ormenio) and Chelidon which links a road with Kyprinos and Metaxades. The municipal boundary with Vyssa is around 3 km north. Neochori is located 27 km NNW of Didymoteicho, about 231 km south of Edirne, 5 km west km west of the Evros and the Turkish, north-northeast of Alexandroupoli and about 1,010 km northeast of Athens.

History

It was annexed to Greece in 1920, prior it was ruled by the Ottomans. It adopted its current name after the annexation, refugees flowed into the village and the Turkish population was displaced eastward. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt. Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s. The village's decline in population was the be a few in the municipality to regain its population.
