Football career

Nenê started playing professionally in Paulista Jundiaí, at the age of 19. After that, he represented Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras and Santos Futebol Clube.

Career in Spain

In 2003–04, he moved to Spain, first with RCD Mallorca – making his La Liga debut on 14 September 2003, in a 0–4 loss at Athletic de Bilbao – and then for Deportivo Alavés. With the Basque outfit, he put up two extraordinary individual seasons, with 21 goals in the league alone, playing his first year in the second division, with promotion.

AS Monaco FC

After being relegated with Alavés, Nenê met the same fate with Celta de Vigo. On 24 August 2007, he was transferred to AS Monaco FC for an undisclosed fee. A year later, having already started with the French in a disappointing season, he joined RCD Espanyol at the very last day of the summer transfer window, on a one-year loan, with a buying option for the Catalonians at the season's end, which was finally not activated.

Back with Monaco, Nenê began the new season in impressive scoring fashion, scoring nine goals in his first 10 matches; this included a brace against US Boulogne in a 3–1 away success, both from long-range free kicks, as he led the scoring charts for a lengthy period of time.

Paris Saint Germain F.C.

On 11 July 2010, Nenê joined Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in a deal believed to be around 5.5 million. "I'm very happy to have signed for Paris," the player told PSG's official website, adding: "Like PSG, I'm hoping to have a big league season and to pull something off in the Europa League".[1]

His first season in the French capital was a remarkable success, especially in the first few months. Nenê netted several spectacular goals, including one one his very first outing against A.S. Saint-Etienne.[2][3] His playmaking ability was seen in full on 11 September 2010, when he netted two impressive goals in a 4-0 thrashing of newly promoted Ligue 1 side Arles.[4] Halfway through the season, he had already registered 13 goals to his name, making him the third highest scorer in France after Moussa Sow and future team mate Kevin Gameiro. His scintillating displays, free-kick ability and attacking flair earned him comparisons with Ronaldinho, another Brazilian who had lit up the Parc des Princes several years before, again, in the second part of the season, Nenê's form plummeted, and he'd only score one more goal during all the remaining games.

In the summer of 2011, Paris-Saint Germain were purchased by Qatari investors, and flush with new funds, purchased several new players, including Jeremy Menez, with whom Nenê had played at Monaco.[5] The Brazilian began the season hesitantly, seemingly struggling to accept that he had lost his star status in the side with the arrivals of newcomers like Argentine wonderkid Javier Pastore. However, Nenê's form has been improving again since the end of September, when he netted a penalty against Nice. Nenê converted two penalties in a 4-2 victory against Caen on 29 October, putting PSG three points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table.[6]
