Chicago MachineShoots Left Ned Crotty (born September 26, 1986) of New Vernon, New Jersey is a MLL professional lacrosse player, formerly of the NCAA Division I college lacrosse team in Duke University. He also plays indoor lacrosse for the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League.
Ned attended and played lacrosse at the Delbarton School in New Jersey. Crotty plays attack at 6'2 and 190 pounds. Crotty entered the 2010 season ranked seventh in career assists (84) and 17th in career points (153) at Duke. Crotty was an All American and won the Tewaaraton Trophy for most outstanding college lacrosse player in 2010. On May 31, 2010, Ned and the Duke Lacrosse team won their first ever Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. He and teammate Max Quinzani were a scoring duo at Duke for two years following the departure of Matt Danowski and Zack Greer. Crotty played with the MLL team Chicago Machine after being chosen first overall in the 2010 MLL Draft for the 2010 season. He also played for the United States lacrosse team at the 2010 World Lacrosse Championship. Crotty is considered to be the best passer in Duke lacrosse history, posting 63 assists in a single season, a Duke University record. He is expected[by whom?] to rival All-Star Boston Cannons Midfielder Paul Rabil for the title of being considered the best field lacrosse player in the world.
On July 6, 2010, Ned signed a multi year endorsement deal with Brine lacrosse. He will begin to help sell and advertise lacrosse products with the Brine lacrosse team. On July 8, 2010, Ned won the MLL 2pt shot competition held at half time at the 2010 Major League Lacrosse All-Star game.
Crotty was drafed by the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League in the second round of the 2010 entry draft[1], and played in eight games with the Mammoth during the 2010 season. He was traded to the Philadelphia Wings for John Orsen during the Boston Blazers dispersal draft.[2]
He currently works for Trilogy Lacrosse as a Sales and Marketing Director.
On November 23, it was announced that the Chicago Machine, who had been playing a road/travel schedule, would be transferred to Rochester and become the reborn Rochester Rattlers. Crotty will lead the attack with wingers Mike Leveille and Kenny Nims to his left and right along with high scoring midfielders Casey Powell and Matt Striebel.
