NCAA East Regional final, Dix set the all-time collegiate record of 19.69 in the 200, breaking a record that had stood since 1988 and posting what was then the world's fastest time of the year. At the 2007NCAA Outdoor Championships, he set the American Collegiate Record with a time of 9.93 in the 100 m. He also became the first man since 1969 (John Carlos - San Jose State) to win the 100 m and 200 m and run a leg on the winning 4x100 m relay team at the NCAA Championships.In 2007, he shot to number five on the all time 200 m list with his 19.69. NCAA Outdoor Championships, Dix won the 200 m while placing fourth in the 100 m.On June 29, 2008, Walter Dix qualified for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad after placing second in the 100 m in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon with a time of 9.80 seconds (wind +4.1). On July 6th, he also qualified in the 200 m, winning in a time of 19.86 seconds. On August 16, he won the bronze (9.91) at the Olympic Games in the men's 100 m event, finishing behind new world record holder
Usain Bolt ofJamaica and Richard Thompson ofTrinidad and Tobago .On August 20, despite finishing fifth, Dix won the bronze medal in the men's 200 m event (19.98), afterChurandy Martina of theNetherlands Antilles and fellow AmericanWallace Spearmon , who finished second and third respectively, were disqualified for stepping on the inside lines of their lanes in the final.External links
