Originally located in Lighthouse Point, FL, the school was founded in 1957 by Dr. James Montgomery. In the summer of 2004, over forty years later, under the direction of President Philip E. Morgaman, Esq., NBPS relocated its Lighthouse Point campus to its current campus in Coconut Creek, FL. The Coconut Creek college style campus of nearly 80 acres (0.32 km2) consists of an upper, middle and lower school. Dr. Tom Marcy currently serves as the school's headmaster.
There are approximately 1,300 students presently enrolled at NBPS. The student-to-teacher ratio is 8:1 with maximum class size limited to 22; (15 for pre-k through second grade). An active co-curricular and extracurricular program is offered at all age levels. Admission is competitive and students are accepted without regard to race, religion, or national origin. Financial aid is available at all grade levels. An academic honors scholarship program is also available for students in grades 9-12. North Broward Preparatory School is a founding member of the Meritas family of schools. NBPS boasts a 100 percent college-acceptance rate with recent graduates now attending prestigious colleges and universities such as Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, MIT, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Penn, Princeton and Stanford.
North Broward Preparatory School‘s 80+ acre, multi-building campus is located 15 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in Coconut Creek, Florida, USA. This campus houses Pre-K through 12th Grade classes as well as boarding facilities. A second boarding campus is located a short drive away in Coral Springs.

Background
The high school curriculum emphasizes the liberal arts and sciences, with enrichment programs and a wide array of honors and Advanced Placement courses in all departments. To earn a NBPS diploma, students must complete a minimum of 24 credits as follows: 4 each in English and mathematics; 3 in social sciences and natural sciences, level three in a world language, and core subject electives; a trimester of Computer Applications, five more trimester in arts or information technology courses, two trimesters of physical education and a trimester of health. Students are also required to perform 100 hours of community service to graduate. NBPS has been authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme since February 2008.
The Meritas Academic Plan (MAP) is a comprehensive educational design that focuses on proven, time-tested "best practices" that nourish academic potential and create positive, engaging learning experiences for students at all ages and academic levels. Components of the plan include:
- Foundational teaching protocols, including essential questions, vocabulary and daily assessments
- Differentiated instruction, with students divided into small groups according to their abilities, receiving tailored instruction

The school is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) which promotes, directs, supervises, and regulates all interscholastic high school athletic events in the State of Florida. With more than 500 students participating on nearly 60 interscholastic teams, over one-third of the student population is involved in athletics. North Broward's athletic teams are nicknamed the Eagles.
The NBPS varsity ice hockey team won the Statewide Amateur Hockey Association of Florida (SAHAF) state title at the BankAtlantic Center on April 18, 2009. Former Florida Panther, Peter Worrell, is the head coach of the varsity hockey team.
North Broward's boys soccer team capped off a highly successful 2010 season by reaching the Class 3A State Championship game in Tampa, FL.
The NBPS varsity baseball team won the District for the first time ever in 2011 beating American Heritage. Then advancing all the way to the state tournament for the first time in the school's history. Along the way beating some of the top ranked teams in the nation.
The North Broward Preparatory School also offers a high level fencing team, with scholastic competition. There is also training at a National level as well, with several North Broward Students competing in National competitions each year.
Fine arts
The Fine Arts Department offers courses in Music, Media, Art, Dance, and Drama. North Broward's production of Into the Woods was selected to perform at the 2009 Florida State Thespian Festival in Tampa, FL. The NBPS music department offers students the opportunity to study and perform in orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, choir, string, and percussion.
North Broward students are active participants in the Meritas European Charity Band Tour. The band, consisting of over 80 musicians from all Meritas' schools, joins together each year for a 15 day trip to Europe, visiting such countries as Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and England while playing for terminally ill, sick or under-privileged children. The trip is run in conjunction with the International Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Within the Fine Arts Department is a wide variety of extracurricular offerings, including an award winning thespian troupe, Creative Writing and Literature Club, and small and large group bands.
