The humanitarianism embodied by the party struck a chord in the idealistic youngster and he decided to join the party under the wing of his uncle, K.N. Napoleon contested his first General Election in 2001 from Villivakkam constituency (Asia’s largest constituency) and was unanimously elected as MLA. Napoleon continued his service as MLA until 2006.
Napolean lost his MLA seat, as a DMK candidate, in 2006 State assembly election in Mylapore constitueny to actor S. V. Shekhar, of AIADMK, and is currently running in Perambalur constituency, for an M.P. seat, for DMK in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. He won the elections and took oath of office as Minister Of State for Social Justice And Empowerment in the Central government

His first film “Pudhu Nellu Puddhu Nathu” directed by Bharathi Raja gave him ample scope to showcase his acting abilities.
