Origin
The Napoleon is of recent United States origin. It was first bred less than a decade ago by breeder Jim Smith. It is a cross of the Persian and the Munchkin cats. It has a short-legged gene, but, however, it does not have a flat face like a Persian, and still can come in longhair or shorthair. The breed may also have Exotic Shorthair bloodlines. It has been formally recognized by two cat clubs: The Dwarf Cat Association and The International Cat Association.
Description
Traits
It is a very small cat, about the size of a Munchkin cat. It has a fully rounded head and face, with large and round eyes, set moderately apart, which can be blue and green. Unlike the Persian, it has a straight and broad nose, and which is not flattened. The most important characteristic is its short legs, which is the gene inherited from the Munchkin. It has a plush coat that can be either short or long. Another important trait is that its skin and coat can hold up to six hairs in one hair follicle, which is why is feels so plush. It has a medium-length tail, short white whiskers, and pointed ears with slightly rounded tips. It comes in an array of colors and patterns, with usually having either solid or bicolor, in colors including smoke, gray, black, fawn, brown, chestnut, orange, red, and white.
Personality
The Napoleon is an easygoing, fun-loving pet. It is playful and active, and they will keep their owners entertained and smiling. It is a very cute and social cat, but is not all widespread. It will often do well with children and other pets, so it makes a great family pet.
Care
It has very few health issues, but some can be prone to polycystic kidney disease, which it inherited from the Persian. However, unlike the Persian, due to the straight nose, it is not prone to any mucus related issues. The cats need only a moderate amount of grooming. Shorthairs should be brushed once a week, while longhairs should be brushed about twice a week.
