History
The NASCAR diecast[1] toys were first produced in the mid-1990s by Hot Wheels, Matchbox, or Racing Champions. They were a crowd favorite at racetracks at their souvenir vendors. By the 2000s nearly every team had a die cast produced for their driver. Nearing 2005 There were three brands. Winners Circle/Action, Racing Champions, or Hot Wheels. In 2006 Action kicked out Racing Champions and Hot Wheels to produce all of the teams. In 2010 Action will stop making Winners Circle at the end of the year. The licences will be picked up by Lionel Trains where the H/O scale trains are made in the same plant in China. Hot Wheels has recently made a come back but is only producing Danica Patrick diecast cars. These diecast cars are also sold at the NASCAR.com superstore. The company is now owned by Lionel/NASCAR Collectibles and is the sole liscenee of all NASCAR diecast. The diecast are sold through retail, wholesale and the RCCA ELITE Diecast Club.(www.lionelnascarcollectables.com) The official die-cast of NASCAR, Lionel NASCAR® Collectables is the leader in the design, promotion, marketing and distribution of licensed die-cast race cars. A joint venture with the NASCAR® Team Properties and Lionel Electric Trains, LNC makes and sells replica die-cast race cars through a variety of channels, including Corporate, National Accounts, trackside, online, a network of specialty dealers and the Racing Collectables Club of America (RCCA). LNC has its pulse on the racing community and is committed to giving fans the very best in die-cast collectable cars
Winners Circle
Winners Circle started around 1997 with drivers Dale Earnhardt, and Jeff Gordon. They came in series to collect them all. Around the year 2001, Winners Circle started to produce more drivers and began to compete with other brands. Drivers Included Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ricky Rudd, Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, and others. The cars were produce in either 1/18, 1/24, 1/43, 1/64, and 1/87. The 1/64 and the 1/24 were the most popular. These cars were sold mostly at Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Meijer and other major retailers. The cars never printed The NASCAR Winston Cup Series or Bud Pole award logos on the car Except on some cars, which would be mounted on A black platform base. In 2004, Many primary schemes that were run that year were produced in these retail store's. In 2005, many alternative schemes were produced instead of the primary schemes. But nonetheless, in 2006 Winner's circle went back to producing the main schemes with some alternative schemes. A tribute to Dale Earnhardt 5 car set based on the cars ran at Talladega by Martin Truex Jr, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Paul Menard, and a special car feturing all of Dale Earnhardt's major achievements was produced with Alcoholic sponsors. In 2007, Winner's circle produced just a tad less cars than normal in retail stores. The company started the year producing the non COT cars until the raced version cars came out, where some COT cars that won, were made. They also went to plastic packaging instead of cardboard, since too many people were tearing open the cardboard packages in stores with ease. Then in 2008 we started to get less cars. they started off the year with the top drivers like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhardt Jr, etc. They didn't produce a specialty line like American Hero's or Tribute to Dale that year except for a special Hendrick case with Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Leaving out Casey Mears. Then in 2009, a dramatic drop in the Diecasts had begun. the year started with a Daytona 500 special packaging, and a special case with a 51st anniversary Daytona 500 car and a drivers car like Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, or Jeff Gordon. But in 2010, there was the deadline. Only 8 different drivers were produced. Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, and Digger. Target stopped selling these cars in July 2010, K-mart stopped selling them way back in 2008, and now Walmart would stop at the end of the 2010 season. In 2011, Walmart claimed to be the largest retail store of NASCAR merchandise, but still won't sell NASCAR Diecasts and has put their order on hold until further notice. Now Diecasts will have to be bought at trackside, local retail and through the LionelNASCAR.com website. But in 2012, it has been confirmed that Spin Master, the creator of Air Hogs, Tech Deck, Backugan, and other retail items will begin to produce a large Retail NASCAR merchandise lot in stores such as WAL-MART, K-MART, and TARGET. 1/64 and 1/24 scale diecasts will be produced. the 1/87 scale has not been confirmed.
