Career
Born in Memphis, TN, Muck Sticky first started playing the violin at age 10. Muck played in a metal cover band during his teens, and began trending towards comedy rock and rap. Muck quit the band in 2001 to record his own demos under the name Muck Sticky. In 2003, Muck Sticky became a tour merchandise representative for the band Saliva. While spending the next three years touring, he recorded his own music with a four-track that he brought on the road, setting up in hotel rooms and back lounge of the tour bus. During this time Muck Sticky produced "The Nifty Mervous Thrifty" in 2004 and "The Sticky Muck" in 2005. By then, Muck was becoming so busy balancing his career and working with Saliva, he chose to return to Memphis to focus on his music career. In 2006 came "Muck Sticky Wants You", which, like the other two albums, was self released. Then in 2007, while working on "Bobolink Cove" with music producer Scott Bomar (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan), he was introduced to the Phillips family at Select-O-Hits National Distribution, who now distribute all 8 Muck Sticky titles under Muck's own label Stay Lifted Records, including the 2008 release, "Muck Sticky is My Friend".[1]
Muck Sticky was featured on the MTV online-only show $5 Cover, which centers around the careers of singers from the Memphis, TN area. The show is produced by Craig Brewer, director and writer of the 2005 movie, Hustle & Flow.[2]
A review described Muck as an artist who "comes across as a backwoods midpoint between Beck and Mungo Jerry...somewhere between Slim Shady and Weird Al."[3]
In 2006 Muck Sticky was featured on the album Aristocrunk by Lord T & Eloise.[1] Muck Sticky also played Memphis in May in 2008 and 2009.[4]
In 2011 Muck Sticky was featured in the single "Party Animal" by Taco & Da Mofos
