Christine Hamlin replaced Kathy Wolfson as principal on January 9, 2006. In June 10, 2011, a new principal, Mrs. Demsher from Bridgeport Elementary went to Mountainview because Christine Hamlin got promoted.

The school's mascot is the mountain lion.[1] Mountainview values are Integrity, Commitment,Compassion, Learning, Creativity, Innovation.[2] In 2007-08 there were 1,026 students, two thirds of whom were white, and a fifth were Hispanic.[3]
Children start their education in the Mountainview Fun for Fours, that is funded by Los Angeles Universal Preschool.[4] The preschool is oversubscribed and parents take part in a lottery to secure places.[5] Sixth graders from Mountainview move onto the Rio Norte Junior High School.
