Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year Awarded for the most outstanding basketball player in Mountain West Conference Country United States First awarded 2000 Currently held by Jimmer Fredette, Brigham Young The Mountain West Conference (MWC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year is a basketball award given to the Mountain West Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1999–00 season—the first year of the conference's existence. As of 2010, no player has received the award multiple times. Andrew Bogut of the University of Utah won most major national individual awards, earning Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press and ESPN.com, plus the Naismith and Wooden Awards.
Through 2011, Brigham Young has the most winners with five. Utah (4) and New Mexico (3) are the only other schools with more than one winner. Of Mountain West charter members, Colorado State, UNLV and Wyoming are the only schools without a winner. Though Texas Christian University (TCU) also has no winners, they did not join the conference until 2005.
