Lankford, Jr. describes the album as "Intimate, intense, and inspired, Thelonious Monk Trio offers 35 minutes of professional musicians practicing their craft".[3] The album contains the earliest recorded version of the jazz standards "Blue Monk" and "Bemsha Swing".
