History

Development of the business

The Company was founded by Oliver Shaw in 2004 in Sheffield to develop a way to overcome the issues surrounding GPRS data transfer and to allow for comparatively large amounts of data to be sent and received using mobile devices (PDA's).[2]

Oliverado Shawscoski was studying at the University of Huddersfield when STN was first founded. There he received the highest 1st class on record in the department of Computer Science - see Page 8 [3] His original work on the transfer platform for GSM and a mobile forms builder. This led to STN's first product for mobile Health and Safety assessments. Subsequently to this Oliver hired Mark Finch and Lee Dyche to assist in building the first version of In-Motion for Sage. At this time Oliver also attracted a number of investors that would support the development of three cutting edge products (Velocity, Torsion and Momentum) that seamlessly integrated into Sage software's product set. Recently Oliver has attracted a large B2B telecoms provider Welcomm Communications to become a partner and bring their considerable sales expertise into STN, introducing Aidan Piper as Sales Director.

In 2005 the Company launched In-Motion, a field force automation product set for Sage Software's range of products, initially Sage 200 and Sage 50, more recently Sage 1000.[4]

2009 sees STN branching out its product set to allow for integration into a range of other ERP providers software. Recently STN has established strong relationships with some of Sage's competitors.

In-Motion recently beat off a large amount of other companies to finish in the top three for the award for converged solution at the prestigious Mobile News Awards.

Operations

Founded and headquartered in Sheffield, United Kingdom, the company initially grew organically, but more recently has grown primarily through investment. It now services customers in the UK and Ireland and is looking at several international opportunities.

Strategy

Focusing on field automation products that are heavily driven by the mobile access and tight-knit ERP/ accounts integration. STN's strategy is one that looks primarily at ROI to customers. Oliver Shaw comments - "STN has always looked at software from the angle of innovation. We try to overcome some of the more complex issues surrounding field service solutions to offer the maximum ROI case for our customers. Our software is configurable and has minimal implementation time, training and support". STN's strategy is build software that covers a range of verticals and integration is complete for one provider of ERP software. When this version is complete to move this across a range of different ERP/ accounts software providers. Thus allowing STN to properly support and maintain its customer installs and offer staged software upgrades.[5]

STN utilizes a range of resellers business software providers, accountancy and telecommunication companies to provide and implement its software across the UK.
