The Mississippi State Bulldogs basketball program represents Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS in men's NCAA Division I basketball. The Bulldogs play in the Southeastern Conference and are currently coached by Rick Stansbury. As of the 2010 season the Bulldogs are 1272-1056 (.546). The Bulldogs won the 2009 SEC Tournament but were defeated in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

History

The Bulldogs have been to the NCAA Tournament ten times, the first time in 1963 and the most recent being 2009. Six of the ten NCAA appearances have been earned in the past 10 seasons under the current MSU Head Basketball Coach, [Rick Stansbury]. They have won 6 overall SEC titles in 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1991, and 2004. Also, the Bulldogs have won the SEC Tournament three times, 1996 and 2002 and most recently in 2009. Mississippi State has several notable alumni including NBA Hall of Fame Forward Bailey Howell and current Miami Heat Center Erick Dampier. Mississippi State also has several NBA stars who committed to MSU but joined the NBA instead of heading to Starkville for a college career. Some of those names include Raptors Forward Jonathan Bender, Blazers Forward Travis Outlaw,and Warriors Point Guard Monta Ellis.

In basketball, Mississippi State leads the series over Ole Miss 138-105 and has won 16 of the last 20 and 20 of the last 26.[1][2] Current MSU Head Coach Rick Stansbury is 21-7 vs the Rebels.
