Mount Vernon, New York – March 17, 1992 inOcean Springs, Mississippi ) was anAmerican football quarterback , as well as acollege football head coach . He was considered so good, that even legendary football coachKnute Rockne said he was the best quarterback ever.Fact|date=February 2007 In 1929-1930, Notre Dame went 19-0, with him as the starter. He was the star player on Knute Rockne's best ever team. He had a tendency to make big plays all throughout his career.Fact|date=February 2007He was also an assistant coach at Purdue in 1931, at Mississippi State from 1936 to 1938, and at Iowa from 1939 to 1949.
