Career

Antonio signed for Championship team Reading from Tooting & Mitcham United (having previously spent five seasons with the South West London "Juniors" club, from 12 years of age, that now acts as a feeder club to F.A. Conference league team Hampton and Richmond Borough.)[citation needed] on a contract until the summer of 2010 on 28 October 2008,[2] following a trial at the club.[3] He rejoined Tooting on a month's loan on 9 January 2009.[4] The loan was extended for a second month on 11 February,[5] but he returned to Reading on 17 February after being recalled.[6] He joined League One team Cheltenham Town on a month's loan on 19 February.[7] He made his Football League debut in a 2–0 defeat to Leeds United on 21 February,[8] being substituted on 28 minutes after suffering from an ankle injury.[9]

After a season on loan to Southampton, he returned to Reading in the summer of 2010 and for the 2010–11 season, became a regular member of the Royals side. He scored his first goal for Reading on 23 October 2010 in a 4–0 over Burnley.

Southampton

On 5 October 2009, he joined Southampton on loan for one month.[10] making his league debut on 9 October in a 3–1 away win at Southend United.[11] He scored his first goal for Southampton in the FA Cup victory over Bristol Rovers on 6 November 2009.[12] The loan was subsequently extended until the end of the season.[13]

He scored in the first leg of the JP Trophy area finals against MK Dons, with the match finishing 0–1. He scored in his next game too, a 2–1 victory over Ipswich Town in the FA Cup. He scored again in the 4–1 JP Trophy Final win over Carlisle United at Wembley Stadium on 28 March 2010, which was his 20th birthday.[14]

His first league goal came in a 1–0 victory over Charlton Athletic on 10 April 2010, 34 minutes into the game. He scored two and set up another in a 3–2 victory over Carlisle United on 24 April 2010. Antonio's loan deal finished at the end of the season, but both manager Alan Pardew and Antonio himself had expressed a desire for the winger to remain at Southampton.[15]

Colchester United

On 15 August 2011, Colchester United agreed a deal to sign Antonio on a one-month loan.[16] The loan was later extended by another two months. Antonio returned to Reading on 5 November 2011.
