Michael Edward Zordich (born October 12, 1963) is a former professional American football player. He was a 1985 Consensus All-American Safety at Penn State University. He played 12 seasons as a cornerback and safety in the National Football League and is currently the safeties coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Playing career

College

Zordich was a four-year letterman at Penn State where he was a stalwart at "hero". He finished his career with 201 tackles. He earned a Bachelor of Science in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management from Penn State in 1986.

NFL

The 6' 1", 212 lb. Zordich was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the ninth round (#235 overall) of the 1986 NFL Draft. He was released by the Chargers at the end of pre-season, and signed with the New York Jets. He played 10 of 16 games during his first season in 1987, primarily on special teams. He was signed by the Phoenix Cardinals in 1989. He played for the Cardinals for five years, then moved on to the Eagles in 1994, where he replaced Andre Waters as the starting strong-side safety, playing out his career in Philadelphia to the end of the 1998 season for a total of 5 years, where he missed only 1 game. In 1999, he was replaced by Tim Hauck.

In each of his first seasons with the Jets, Cardinals, and Eagles, Zordich ran an interception back for a touchdown.

He played a total of 185 games in 12 NFL seasons, made 20 interceptions, and scored four touchdowns, his last a 58 yard fumble recovery touchdown in 1995.

Coaching career

Philadelphia Eagles

Zordich was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as a defensive coaching intern in 2009. He was promoted to defensive quality control coach on February 3, 2010.[1] He was promoted to safeties coach on February 7, 2011.

Personal

Zordich lives in Canfield, Ohio with his wife Cynthia, a well-known photographer, and their three children. His son Michael currently plays running back for the Nittany Lions [1] and another son, Alex, plays at University at Buffalo.
