Michael Szenberg

Michael Szenberg is the distinguished professor of economics and chairman of the finance and economics department at Pace University’s Lubin School of Business.^[1] He is editor of The American Economist.^[2][3]

Life

A dedicated researcher and writer, he received the 1971 Irving Fisher Monograph Award, of which the Final Selection Board consisted of three Nobel laureates in economics (Maurice Allais, Milton Friedman, and Paul Samuelson). Dr. Szenberg received the Schalkenbach Foundation Economic Research Award in 1987. Recently he was selected as the recipient of the 2013 John R. Commons Award, which is "awarded biennially to an outstanding economist in recognition of his achievements and for his service both to economics profession and to Omicron Delta Epsilon." He is also a recipient of many scholarly, teaching, and service awards and grants by universities and professional associations. Besides scholarly activities, he was President and Principal of Abrasco Technological Services between 1979 and 2003. He is a consultant to banks and manufacturing companies in the United States and abroad.

The author and editor of fifteen books, including Eminent Economists: Their Life Philosophies (Cambridge University Press, 1993), Franco Modigliani, A Mind That Never Rests (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), and other works many of which were translated into several languages. In addition, he has been interviewed by BBC-TV, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Xinhua News Agency (China), Gazeta USA, TV Tokyo, and many other journalistic outlets regarding international economic matters. He is the author of many scholarly articles and encyclopedia entries such as in the International Encyclopedia of Social Sciences, and the Encyclopedia of Quantitative Finance.

Michael Szenberg has resided on three different continents under different regimes. He received his PhD in economics from the City University of New York in 1970.

Since 1972 until September 2011, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of The American Economist. In addition, he served as editor of Economics Categories, Cambridge University Press Encyclopedia and is the coordinator and chairperson of Editors of Economics Journals, American Economic Association Meetings since 1984. He is an editorial consultant to top publishing houses and also coeditor with Lall B. Ramrattan of the Economics series of Handbooks by Oxford University Press.
