Biography

Born in Timmins, Ontario, [1] Michael Robinson attended Sheridan School of design as a glass major and graduated in 1972. Until 1986, glassblowing was his medium of choice. Starting in 1985 he switched to printmaking and poetry. His works are held in the collections of some of the finest venues in Canada including the Canadian Museum of Civilization [2], the Royal Ontario Museum [3], and the McMichael Gallery [4].

Michael Robinson's inspiration for his art is drawn from his spiritual beliefs. "It is sometimes difficult to ascertain whether Michael Robinson's work and perception of life are pessimistic or hopeful, but he believes strongly in education. Making people aware of the world around them is the only hope for the future." [5]

Quotations

"It is important that we see the Earth as a living entity, only then can we understand where we fit in"

"My work represents man’s responsibility as an equal member and a steward to the medicine circle of life.”

"There is a great mystery hiding in the shadows of the every day world, weaving in out of what is real and what man thinks is real. I find myself drawn to the need to record this ever moving mystery, not to dissect it or label it, just to touch it with my brush or my words."

"I have worked hard at removing 'man' from the 'centre of all things' by putting him in his rightful place. Equally, among all living things."
