Michael E. Lamb is the Controller of the City of Pittsburgh. He previously as served as Prothonotary of Allegheny County from 2000-2008. Prior to that he served as Chief Deputy Prothonotary from 1992 to 2000. He became Acting Prothonotary in October 2000 upon the death of former Prothonotary Michael F. Coyne and was elected to a full term on 6 November 2001.

During his years in the Prothonotary's Office, Michael Lamb has helped to transform the office from a nineteenth-century manual record-keeping office to the most technologically advanced court recording office in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As Prothonotary, Michael has returned millions of dollars in surpluses to Allegheny County taxpayers and has reduced the budget of the Prothonotary's office. Michael Lamb has cut costs in the Prothonotary's office by reducing office staff through attrition, while at the same time improving service.

Biography

Professional life

Michael Lamb is an attorney admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law, his Master's Degree from Carnegie Mellon University's H. John Heinz School of Public Policy and his Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University. Michael is also a graduate of the Local Government Academy.

Prior to working in the Prothonotary's office, Michael Lamb served as a research and legislative assistant to Pittsburgh City Council and was the Assistant Regional Director of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.

An aggressive political organizer, Michael Lamb has managed successful political campaigns in Allegheny County and in the City of Pittsburgh, including the Allegheny 2000 Citizens Committee which advocated for the County Home Rule Charter. Always putting the interests of Allegheny County's citizens before his own, in 2005 Michael Lamb was an outspoken supporter of the referendum to reduce the number of elected Allegheny County Row Offices. A referendum that combined the Prothonotary's office with two other row offices thus eliminating the office of the Prothonotary.

Michael Lamb has also been active in the community. A staunch advocate of public education, Michael is the co-chair of A Plus Schools, an organization with the purpose of advocating for an aggressive agenda that will improve student achievement in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Michael is also involved in several Irish-American organizations including the Knights of Equity, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. He is a member of the Mount Washington - Duquesne Heights Community Development Corporation and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology.

Personal life

A lifelong resident of Allegheny County, Michael Lamb is one of four children of former Pennsylvania State Senator Thomas Lamb and Barbara Lamb. Michael grew up in the Beechview section of the City of Pittsburgh where he attended St. Catherine's School. He went on to South Hills Catholic and Seton-La Salle Catholic High School. Michael and his wife Jill reside in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

His father, Thomas F. Lamb, served in the Pennsylvania Senate.^[1]
