Melway Perth

The Melway Perth is a street directory for the city of Perth, Western Australia. It is published by Ausway, using mapping data from Landgate. It is the primary competitor to the UBD and Gregory's Perth street directories.

History

Perth's first street directory, 'Road Maps with Index' was published in 1944 by the then Department of Lands and Surveys. In 1968, the directory underwent a format change and was rebranded as the 'Metropolitan Street Directory'. The directory was then renamed 'StreetSmart' in 1990. In 1996, the street directory became the first in Western Australia to be digitally produced. In 2009, the directory was renamed 'Melway Greater Perth' for the 2010 edition and was published for the first time by Ausway.

Maps

The Melway Greater Perth includes a variety of different maps. In addition to coverage of the Perth metropolitan area, the Melway Perth includes the following maps:

  • Arterial Road maps
  • Perth approach maps
  • Enlargements of Perth, Fremantle and Mandurah CBDs
  • Rottnest Island, with enlargements of major settlemet areas
  • Enlargements of various universities and hospitals
  • Perth zoo map
  • Perth railway station map
  • Perth bicycle network maps
  • Public transport maps and information
  • Airport maps for Perth and Jandakot airports
  • Maps of Albany, Bunbury/Australind, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie/Boulder

Traveller's Atlas and Maps

A StreetSmart Traveller's Atlas is available in addition to the Melway Perth. The Traveller's Atlas contains a road atlas of regional Western Australia and town maps for a variety of major towns. Map scales of the regional maps range from 1:250 000 to 1:2 000 000. The regional town maps are all 20 000 map scale. StreetSmart Touring Maps are also available, which are similar to the Traveller's Atlas except in fold-out form and with only information on a specific region. StreetSmart Touring Maps contain a larger range of town maps than the Traveller's Atlas and include tourist information about the towns included. The Touring Maps come in a variety of scales. In addition, StreetSmart City and Town maps (at 1:20 000 scale) are published focusing on wider coverage of one or two towns. These publications have not been rebranded by Ausway, but are available from selected quality distributors and Landgate (on line or over the counter).

Digital maps

Maps from various StreetSmart publications are available for viewing on www.streetdirectory.com.au [1] (the website has not yet been updated with 2010 Melway Perth maps). Also, a digital version of the former StreetSmart street directory is available by the name of StreetExpress, with wider coverage of the Perth metropolitan area than the hard-copy StreetSmart street directory.
