Melanophryne carpish is a rare and little-known species of microhylid frog endemic to Peru. It lacks eardrums, and at a cursory glance it resembles leptodactylid frogs of the genus Phrynopus where it was initially placed. It also has no tympanic annulus and stapes, making it probably extremely hard of hearing.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is almost extinct due to habitat destruction.
