Phrynopus (type species "P. peruanus" Peters, 1873) is a polyphyletic cite journal | author=Heinicke, M.P., W.E. Duellman & S.B. Until recently the frog "Phrynopus pereger" Lynch, 1975 was placed in this genus but a recent revision [http://www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2006f/z01284p060f.pdf] moved it to the genus "Eleutherodactylus".
