McBee Presbyterian Church is the first Presbyterian church of McBee, South Carolina.

History

McBee Presbyterian Church was organized in 1901 by a commission of Bethel Presbytery. McBee Presbyterian Church is now a member of New Harmony Presbytery of the PCUSA. The first service was preached by Reverend T.C. Ligot on June 30, 1901.

On July 15, 1903 the church and sanctuary building was completed at a total cost of $904.66. Reverend A.M. Harris served as pastor from July 1902 until 1906. McBee Presbyterian Church shared its pastor with two other Presbyterian congregations in nearby Jefferson.

1954 an education building was constructed near the sanctuary. Five classrooms and an assembly room was built at the cost of $5000.

As the church grew, plans for additional space was made in1967 for a larger educational building. The expansion was completed in 1969 at a cost of $26,000.

In 1974, McBee Presbyterian Church voted to pull out of the three church relationship. This enabled McBee Pres to call its own pastor to serve the growing needs of its congregation. Dr. Neil Truesdell, a retired pastor, agreed to serve the church and did so for 15 years and retired again in 1989.

In 1979 more classrooms were added to the educational building to provide space for the Sunday School and children's ministries.

In 1996, the historic church building had to be moved back from the highway to accommodate the widening of Hwy 151. During this delicate move of the old church building, the decision was made to add 30 feet to the rear of the sanctuary, add pews, and to expand the pulpit area, chancel and choir loft.

To this day, God continues to bring His people to worship Him in spirit and in truth at McBee Presbyterian Church.

Thanks be to God for blessing this church and its congregation for over one hundred years. We pray that His blessings will continue to be on McBee Presbyterian Church.
