About/Background

Griswold served five years in the active duty military as an enlisted member of the U.S. Army, and was a Military Police Soldier and member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team/First Armored Division[8](based in Baumholder, GE) and was deployed to Iraq with his unit to fight in the Battle Of Ramadi(2006).[9] Griswold has been recognized for his work in bringing awareness and being an advocate through his music for "Recovery and Transition" issues concerning and affecting today's Veterans. Griswold is best known for songs like "Crazy" and "Vampire", which were greatly inspired by his time in Iraq.[10] His song "Unbridled" was given a spotlight placement at Target Field for a Minnesota Twins game during the opening season at the stadium in the summer 2010. His independently released single,"With Healing Hands(Upon your heart)", became available online in October 2010 in honor and to benefit the American Cancer Society.[11] He has been invited to perform the song at number the Relay For Life events around the Midwest to support it's efforts through it's message.[12] Griswold is also a known social and fine arts philanthropist, and actively supports many humanitarian efforts, environmental awareness campaigns and is a strong advocate and supporter for the fine arts and folk arts communities.[10][12][13][14]

Griswold has made a number of high-profile television/radio appearances and interview segments to discuss his music, career and social interests with many Minneapolis based journalists such as Diana Pierce of Kare 11,[14] Don Shelby of WCCO, Michele Tafoya of WCCO/ESPN, Tim Russel of WCCO/CBS and Judy Skeie Voss from the Emmy Winning MCN cable show, "Local Image".[15][16][17][18]

In 2009 he was a featured Minnesota artist on the charitable Christmas compilation sold on a major distribution level in all regional Target store locations, titled, "Home For The Holidays: A Minnesota Christmas(VOL 1)". Griswold contributed a recording of his own acoustic arrangement of John Lennon's "Happy Christmas(War is Over)".[4][19] He took part in the compilations release celebration and performed an hour set at the Mall Of America on the main "Best Buy Rotunda" stage the day after Thanksgiving(Black Friday) in 2009. In December 2009, he took part in the Hennipen Theater production, which featured the artists from the Compilation album as he performed 2 songs at the Pantages Theater to a nearly sold out crowd.

Griswold is currently attempting to emerge onto the national scene and has licensed songs over to Clear Channel's Discover NEW Music syndicated web program.[20] On June 28, 2011, an internet article that made it's break in Woodbury, MN and gave an in depth look into his career, music and mission(s), was then selected and posted as a full feature on AOL's Music Homepage.[21] His first national press mention was in the Chicago based music magazine, The AV Club, for being the supporting act for Columbia Records' artist, Alice Peacock.[22]

He is set to release his song "Crazy" for the "Rock Compilation, VOL 3" with the Military exclusive international record label, To The Fallen Records[23] which will hit stores in late 2011. Griswold has a number of his original songs signed to an exclusive licensing agreement with the Universal Music Publishing and EMI Music Publishing joint venture Production Music company,[24] APM Music. He publishes his songs through his own publishing company under the name,"Matthew Griswold Music", which was officially registered with BMI(Broadcast Music Inc) in the summer of 2010.
