Matthew Griffith (1599? – 1665), master of the Temple; B.A. Gloucester Hall, Oxford, 1618; rector of St. Mary Magdalen, Old Fish Street, and (1640) St. Benet Sherehog; Fequestered, 1642; D.D. Oxford, 1643; royal chaplain, 1643; helped to defend Basing House, 1645; his royalist sermon (1660) answered by Milton, 1660; master of the Temple and rector of Bladon, Oxfordshire, c. 1661-5. [1]
