Case Western Reserve UniversityMartin J. Gruenberg is the Acting Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Board of Directors. He also served as the Acting Chairman for the FDIC Board of Directors following the resignation of Former Chairman Donald Powell.
Career
Gruenberg was sworn in as the Vice Chairman of the FDIC Board of Directors on August 22, 2005.[1] Following the resignation of Chairman Donald Powell, Gruenberg served as the Acting Chairman for the board from November 15, 2005 to June 26, 2006. Prior to joining the FDIC Board, he served as the Senior Counsel to Senator Paul S. Sarbanes from 1993-2005. From 1987 to 1992, he served as Staff Director for the Senate Banking Committee's Subcommittee on International Finance and Monetary Policy. Gruenberg is said to have played a major role in legislation which includes the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act of 1991 (FDICIA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.[2]
In April 2011, Congressman Barney Frank speculated that President Barack Obama would nominate Gruenberg to be the next Chairman of the FDIC.[3]
Personal life
Gruenberg holds a J.D. from Case Western University School of Law and an A.B. from Princeton University, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.[4]
