Marshall Vian Summers, born on January 28, 1949,[1] is a US-born writer, public speaker, spiritual teacher, and the founder of The Society for The Greater Community Way of Knowledge. Marshall became an award winning author with his books Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing (Winner of ForeWord Magazine's Spirituality Book of the Year),[2] and Wisdom from the Greater Community: Volume II–How to Find Purpose, Meaning and Direction in an Emerging World (Winner of the 1997 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Medal Award for Spirituality). He is perhaps best known for his 2001 book, The Allies of Humanity.

Marshall asserts he has been sent into the world to receive a New Message from God.[3] In order to receive this new message, he claims to have endured thousands of hours of direct contact with what he calls the Unseen Ones, the Angelic Presence who oversees the world. He first came in contact with this presence in 1982, at the age of 33.[4] Marshall emphasizes that humanity is at the threshold of emerging into a Greater Community of intelligent life, and that a greater spiritual understanding must be cultivated if humanity is to remain free in this greater arena of life:

I am not a guru, saint or avatar. I am a messenger with a vital message for the people of the world. I have come to speak about the reality of life in the Greater Community and the greater spiritual understanding we must cultivate if we are to advance and remain free in the presence of greater forces within our midst. This is why I am here and this is what I have to teach.[5]

Organization

In 1992, Marshall Vian Summers founded The Society for The Greater Community Way of Knowledge, a 501(c)(3) religious non-profit organization. The Society is both the publisher of Summers' books and recordings—under the imprint of New Knowledge Library—and also a small religious order dedicated to studying, practicing and teaching the New Message from God. The Greater Community Sanctuary in Boulder, Colorado, USA, is the gathering place for The Society, where monthly contemplative services are provided as a gift to the public at no cost. These services are broadcast to a worldwide community via the Internet.[6]

Writings

Marshall's writings contain a spiritual preparation which focuses on Knowledge, a deeper intelligence within each person and endowed by God. Knowledge within each person, and within all sentient beings in the Universe, represents a connection to God and life beyond the worlds of time and space.[7]

Of Marshall Vian Summers' books, seven are commercially available and three others are available directly from his organization. His writings have been published in French and Greek, and also translated into Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, Turkish, Chinese, German and Finnish.[8]

With the exception of The Allies of Humanity books,[9] Summers claims that his writings come through him from a divine source; they are first spoken and recorded, then transcribed and published.[10]

The New Message from God

Marshall Vian Summers' writings, recordings and teachings constitute what is known as the New Message from God. Central to this message is the assertion that humanity is coming into contact with intelligent life from beyond the Earth, and is unprepared for the challenges of this contact. The New Message from God is allegedly the Creator's preparation for this contact, developing in people clarity of observation, wisdom in decision making, and the connection to what Summers calls Knowledge–a deeper consciousness within each person that is joined with all life and is free of confusion or doubt.[23]

The self-study practices of the New Message from God include: stillness meditation, focused contemplation, periodic review of one's health, relationships, providership, spiritual advancement, and bringing life decisions to Knowledge.
