He won a silver medal at the 2007 Pan American Games in the men's K-4 1,000 metres event, alongside Angus Mortimer, Jeremy Bordeleau and Chris Pellini.
A resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia he was a bronze medallist in the K1 500 metres and placed fourth in the K4 1,000 metres at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. De Jonge studied civil engineering at Dalhousie University.
