Early life

Grasby was born in Darwin to an Australian father and a Thai mother, a trained chef. The family subsequently moved to Papua New Guinea.[1] Grasby attended boarding school at Somerville House in Brisbane. She stayed in Brisbane after high school to attend university, where she studied journalism and law.[2] Upon graduating from the Queensland University of Technology in 2005, Grasby was offered one of nine national cadetships with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).[3]

Journalist

Between 2006 and 2008 Grasby was a reporter with the ABC. She filed reports for a range of radio and online services, including The World Today,[4] AM,[5] and ABC Rural.[6] She also worked as a producer for Stateline.[7] Grasby resigned from the ABC in 2008 to pursue her interest in food, and to join her partner Tim Althaus in Adelaide.[8]

Career with food

Since moving to Adelaide, Grasby has undertaken a variety of roles in the food and hospitality industries. She was a customer service manager for Bottega Rotolo,[9] a food writer for Cobb[10] and also contributes to the website of the company Secret Vines, operated by her partner Tim.[11]

Grasby maintains an expansive website where she also blogs about food-related topics.[12]

Grasby is enrolled in the Master of Arts in Gastronomy program[13] which is conducted jointly by the University of Adelaide and Le Cordon Bleu.[14]

In 2010 Grasby was selected as one of the Top 24 contestants in MasterChef Australia, Season 2.[2] Several of the eliminated contestants tipped her to win the competition.[15] A poll conducted by news.com.au determined that she was favoured to win, with 38% of the vote.[16]

On 8 July 2010 Grasby was eliminated from the show, placing 9th.[17][18] She is now a columnist for MasterChef Magazine.[19]

Marion's Kitchen food range was released to stores in February 2011. It includes a satay kit with marinade and sauce.[20] Grasby is signed to Pan Macmillan and travelled to Thailand and India to explore ideas for her new cookbook. The book, Marion: Recipes and stories from a hungry cook, was released in July 2011.[21]
