Mario Alberto (born February 8, 1994) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Chivas USA in Major League Soccer.

Career

Youth

Mario spent part of his childhood in Baja California, Mexico before returning to the United States for high school. He attended Santa Barbara High School and became captain of the soccer team. On July 25, 2011 Mario made the cut that led to a try-out with Major League Soccer. His win earned him the apodo "Sueño". Mario beat out around 2,000 other competitors to earn a spot on Chivas USA's U-19 squad.

Professional

Mario was signed by Chivas to a professional contract on July 30, 2011.^[1] He made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in a 3-0 win over New York Red Bulls.

Mario scored in his first game of the season against D.C. United on August 2011. He came in as a substitute in the 67th minute and his goal made the game 3-1 thus ending United's hopes of a come back.^[2] Mario made his first start the following week against the Colorado Rapids and scored on a glancing header to seal the game for Chivas.^[3] Mario scored again the following week against the Columbus Crew.^[4] After scoring three goals in three games he has been nicknamed "El Sueño" (The Dream)
