Marco Glaviano

Marco Glaviano (born in Palermo, Sicily in 1942) is a reputable figure in the fashion industry as a premier photographer who has been sought after by famous supermodels such as Cindy Crawford, Paulina Porizkova, and Eva Herzigova. He has been the leading pioneer of digital photography and was the first to publish the first ever digital picture in American Vogue in 1982. His photographs of landscapes, portraits, and jazz has landed their spots in famous museums and private collections worldwide. He also designed and founded Pier 59 Studios in New York which is still recognized today as the most important and well-known photo studio in the world.

Biography

Born in Palermo, Sicily in 1942, Marco Glaviano began his artistic career with a degree in architecture from the University of Palermo. Glaviano began experimenting with photography after he had worked as a set designer and played in a jazz group. His mild experimentation with photography led to a full-time devotion to photography; and in 1967, he moved to Rome and Milan to pursue a career in photography. After working, as a photographer, for eight years, Glaviano moved onto featuring his work in European fashion magazines. Eventually, Glaviano brought his talent and work to the US and moved to New York in 1975.

Career

Glaviano’s interest in photography led him to move to New York City in 1975, where he was able to work under an exclusive contract for American Vogue,[1] then later for Harper’s Bazaar. His works continued to appear in other American and European magazines such as Elle and Italian Vanity Fair.[2] He has photographed more than 500 covers and editorials for these prestigious publications. In the 1980s and 1990s, Glaviano collaborated with Elite Model Management and worked extensively with supermodels Paulina Porizkova, Iman, Joan Severance, Anneliese Seubert, Yasmeen Ghauri, Tatiana Sorokko, Eva Herzigova, and Cindy Crawford, influencing the development of the supermodel phenomenon. He also designed Pier 59 Studios in 1995 and Milano Studio Digital in Milan in 2001, the most advanced digital studio in the world. His strong interest in digital photography led him to publish the first ever digital picture in American Vogue in 1982.[3]

Maco Glaviano’s most recent endeavors have been his establishment of Milano Studio in Milan to show case for the new digital photo Frontier with his partner Tommy Wirz. He has published to date ten books, five of which were created between 2005 and sixteen with the collaboration of friends and sponsor T.J Barrak. Giuseppe Cipriani and Artist Art Director Hady Sy, composed Glaviano’s personal photographs of the most famous models of the last decades and his other passions, such as jazz, portraits and landscapes. Glaviano also had nine solo exhibitions of his work, in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Milan, Palermo, and Capri. The most recent exhibition of over one hundred photographs opened in October 2010 at the Palazzo Morando Museum in Milan.[4] His first solo show were of his drawings which were presented in Palermo in 1948 at the age of six. His artwork can be found in many important private collections worldwide. He has done major advertising campaigns for clients such as Loreal, Revlon, Calvin Klein, Valentino, Georgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli and many other reputable figures and companies. His interests in film and video have led him to direct a number of TV commercials and short version music, fashion and beauty films for America and Europe. Marco has three daughters, Barbara, Alessia and Adrianna, and a best dog Mr. Bentley and is currently living and working between New York and Milan in collaboration with his sister and muse Adriana.

Glaviano's photography will also be used as wall murals throughout Hotel Indigo New York City Chelsea [1].
