Mansfield mayoral election, 2011

Mansfield mayoral election, 2011

The Mansfield mayoral election, 2011 for the office of Mayor of Mansfield, was held on 5 May 2011, the third Mansfield mayoral election since the post of directly elected mayor was created by Mansfield Borough Council in 2002.[1]

Background

The 2011 election was third direct election for the Mayoralty of Mansfield. The sitting Mayor, Tony Egginton, successfully defended his position, which he first won in 2002. On 5 May 2011 he was elected for the third time, winning in the second round of voting with the narrow majority of 67 over the Labour candidate Stephen Yemm.[2]

The position was created in 2002 after a referendum saw nearly 55% of those taking part voting in favour.[3]

Candidates

The Incumbent Mayor Tony Egginton defended his Mayoralty on behalf of the Mansfield Independent Forum. Labour announced on 22 January that they would be putting up Stephen Yemm as their candidate.[4] On election day Tony Egginton was narrowly re-elected on behalf of the Mansfield Independent Forum.
