Manhattan Day School

Manhattan Day School

Manhattan Day School, often called MDS, is a Modern Orthodox Jewish yeshiva elementary school located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.[1][2] It was founded in 1943.[3] The school has a early childhood department in addition to serving students grades K-8. It also offers a summer camp for children ages 3 - 7, and a science camp for first, second, and third grade students. The school has afterschool and enrichment programs, including softball, karate, ballet, dance, art, E2K,[4] and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. The MDS basketball team, the Killer Bees, has consistently done well in games against other yeshiva day schools.

Rabbi Mordechai Besser has been principal since 1999.[5][6]

Talia Weisberg, a Manhattan Day School graduate, won the 2009 New York City Scripps National Spelling Bee, as well as winning awards at the 2009, 2010, and 2011 National History Day competitions. She also created Bleep![7], an organization to stop kids and teens from cursing, as well as Maidelle.com, a writing website for Jewish teenage girls.
