Each store offers shipping, postal, online printing, and other business services. In the United States, each store is independently owned and operated by a licensed franchisee of Mail Boxes Etc., Inc.[1] In Canada, locations are independently owned and operated by licensed franchisees of master licensee MBEC Communications, L.P.[1]
The former name for The UPS Store was Mail Boxes Etc., which continues to operate outside the United States, Canada, and India.[1] Founded in 1980, Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. was acquired by UPS in 2001. Starting in April 2003, Mail Boxes Etc. locations in the United States re-branded as "The UPS Store".[2] The UPS Store brand was later used at centers in Canada and India.[3] All remaining Mail Boxes Etc. locations in the United States will either convert to The UPS Store brand or close by 2012.[1]
