Dundas Public School is a Primary School in western Sydney of New South Wales in its suburb Dundas.

History

Dundas Public School was first located in Spurway Street (now Stewart Street) opposite the Timor Barracks (8th Brigade. In 1948 the Education Department decided to establish a new School in the vicinity of Dundas railway station.

Mr A. T. Eyles’ 5-acre (20,000 m2) plant nursery facing Kissing Point Road and stretching back to Calder Road was resumed. Resumption of the land was finalised in 1952. The school would occupy 2 acres (8,100 m2) from Kissing Point Road and Mr Eyles would continue using the remaining 3 acres (12,000 m2) as his nursery.

Two buildings (the current assembly hall is one of them) were constructed and the school moved to the new site on 21 August 1952.

It was re-graded as a Primary School from February 1955 with Mr J Buckley appointed as the first principal. In 1957 Mr Eyles moved his nursery from the back part of the school grounds and two other buildings were built in 1958/9 adjacent to the lower playing field. In 1958 the original Dundas School had ceased to operate as Rydalmere North Infants School and the Parents’ and Citizens’ Association requested the name of the school be changed to Dundas Primary School. The Department of Education agreed and Dundas Public School commenced on 19 February 1959.

The classrooms that were built adjacent to the lower playing field were demolished in a fire in 1976 as a result of an arson attack.

New classrooms were built to replace the damaged buildings adjacent to the lower playing field. This building was named the Devlin Building in honour of Mrs Marge Devlin who taught at Dundas from 1961 to 1988.

In 1962, the Beetham Building and canteen were built. This building was named after Ms Marie Beetham who was Infants Mistress from 1968 to 1984.

The car park was not constructed until 1964/5. The first demountable buildings were constructed in 1973.

The Library and Administration Building constructions were completed in late 1974 and ready for use in February 1975. After fundraising for 10 years, the multi-purpose court was constructed in 1992, adjacent to Calder Road. In 2001, the amenities block was constructed next to the court and the play equipment was established in 1999.

In 2000 the ‘Barn’(now called 'The COLA' or Covered Outdoor Learning Area) was constructed using funds raised by the school community.

In 2005 four new MDR buildings were built to accommodate the growing enrolments.
