Dr. G. C. Gopala Pillai is the former Chairman and Managing Director of FACT (Fertilizers and Travancore Chemicals Limited) and the founder-M.D of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA). His vision of a developed Kerala is seen in the plethora of projects he had visualised for the state through the PPP he headed for a brief period of time, INKEL(Infrastructures Kerala Limited).[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] He is also regarded as one of the most enterprising executives[8] of Kerala. He successfully steered a government owned firm KINFRA to become a success. At present he is the Chairman of Public Sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board(RIAB), Government of Kerala.

Education
Gopala Pillai did his graduation from Mahatma Gandhi College, Trivandrum, did an additional graduation in law and completed his MSW from Loyola college, Trivandrum. Apart from the basic degrees he has polished his skills with higher degrees from foreign universities like the prestigious PEMC course from Leeds University, U.K.[9]
Personal life
His wife is a medical practitioner[citation needed].His son Sabareesh Gopala Pillai,is an officer in the Indian Revenue Service(IRS).[10][11]
Professional life
In a career spanning over 3 decades and which still continues he has served in several organisations starting from the position of a middle executive in Keltron.
The long period of nearly 14 years he served in KINFRA has been a glorious period for the organisation and to the infrastructure development of government of Kerala. Under his stewardship KINFRA became the most successful infrastructure firm run by the Kerala Government with numerous industrial parks started and run across the state.
As a recognition to his contributions[12] he was awarded fellowships by the All India Management Association (AIMA) and the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM). He was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of FACT, the largest public sector enterprise in Kerala through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), Govt.of India. Later due to the differences with the then Fertilizers Minister Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, Dr. Pillai resigned his post [9] and joined Relance Industries Limited as Consultant.
Later Government of Kerala invited him to head INKEL, a new infrastructure firm akin to KINFRA but to be run by private participation.
Other
Pillai plays a key role[13] in many other organizations in their director board.[14] He still remains as the key man in KINFRA which he had mentored. He is a member of the Kerala state Industrial Development Corporation.
