In 2005, Discovery Network Asia-Pacific launched Discovery HD (now Discovery HD World), the first high-definition channel in Asia and became available in February and December in South Korea and Japan, respectively. On April 1, 2010, Discovery HD was rebranded to Discovery HD World. The service broadcast area is different from its Canadian counterpart, the Discovery World HD. Back in 2002, Discovery Communications launched Discovery HD Theater in the United States. And in Asia, it launched three high-definition channels, Discovery HD (now Discovery HD World), Animal Planet HD and TLC HD. In October 2008, Discovery Channel HD was launched in Japan.
