Diana Piedade

Diana Silveira Piedade (22 April 1985 - Lagos, Portugal), most known only as Diana Piedade, is the runner-up in the 2009/10 season of Ídolos, the Portuguese version of Pop Idol. In May 2010, Diana acted with the American metal supergroup Hail! and the Portuguese band Ramp, in Lisbon, at the music festival, Rock in Rio.[1]

Description

Diana Silveira da Piedade (born April 22, 1985 in Lagos, Algarve) is a Portuguese rock singer and songwritter. In February 2010, Diana finished as the runner-up on the third season of Ídolos, the Portuguese version of Pop Idol. With a powerful raspy voice this charismatic soulful rock figure was considered in 2010 one of Portugal’s upcoming voices. Until January 2011 New Year's Eve, Diana was one of the top Portuguese artists, with the most Facebook fans (172.000) in her country. Diana has chosen to erase her Fan Page ( dianapiedade ídolos) in order to start from a new beginning and cease the TV show phantom behind. In February 2011, Diana moves to Brooklyn, NY and starts a new journey in her musical career. Invited by Gary Lucas himself, on March 18, Diana performs by his side at Knitting Factory Brooklyn. A Tribute to Jeff Buckley curated by Gary Lucas, in Association With The Estate of Jeff Buckley. Diana is now divided between USA and Portugal with studio recordings.

Background

Diana has an eclectic taste when it comes to music. Mainly she prefers to perform rock and roll, but in her participation on the Portuguese Idols, she performed almost a bit of everything, proving her versatility. Jazz, blues, soul and rock and roll seems to be the artist's preferred genres. Her idols include Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey and Linda Perry.

Ídolos

Diana auditioned for the third season of Ídolos in Lisbon. She eventually became the runner-up.

After her version of the Janis Joplin song, the video became part of a Joplin's tribute website, janisjoplin.net,[2] becoming the first artist ever to have a video of her own on this website, besides Joplin.

Also, after her performance on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", Diana made it again to a main site of dedicated fans. This time was the site led-zeppelin.org[3] - Achilles Last Stand (online since 1996), the biggest fan site of the band, that referred her performance.

According to the jury of the contest, her version of "E Depois do Adeus" was the best performance in all the seasons of Portuguese Idols until the date.

During summer, the singer gave many concerts in her own name, performing with a live band "Les Miserables", composed by Ivo Perpétuo on guitar, Vasco Moura on bass, Hugo Palma on drums and also the special guest, guitarist Tuniko Goulart. During the performances were explored various styles from rock to the blues, from Jimi Hendrix to Queens of the Stone Age.

First Clip

On the 29th of April 2010, aired the first video clip with Diana's presence on the "Última Ceia" show hosted by Rui Unas. Together, they made a duet where both satirize the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" song.[4]
