Department of Premier and Cabinet, Queensland

Queensland is a representative democracy. This means citizens have the right to vote to elect the candidate into the Queensland Legislative Assembly that they believe will best represent their interests in the Parliament of Queensland. The Department of the Premier and Cabinet is one of thirteen departments of the Government of Queensland. Its branches include the Governance Division and Policy Division. The department's roles include supporting and advising the Premier and Cabinet and providing leadership for the public sector in delivering quality services to all Queenslanders.

The department is housed in the Executive Building on George Street in the Brisbane central business district.

Key people

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet reports to the Premier of Queensland and Minister for Reconstruction Anna Bligh. Other key people include Ken Smith as Director General,[1] Patrick Vidgen as Deputy Director-General,[2] Bronwen Griffiths as Associate Director-General[3] and Anthony Crack as Cabinet Secretary [4].

Community

Community Cabinets are an opportunity for individuals and community groups to meet face to face with ministers and to have their say on issues effecting their region.[5]

People’s Question Time is a chance for Queensland residents to put their questions on important topics to the Premier of Queensland, Government Ministers and panel guests. People are able to submit questions and suggestions online and watch the event live via webcast.

Initiatives

The recent initiatives of the Department of Premier and Cabinet include; read to children every day, Toward Q2, Growth Management Summit, People’s Question Time, Reef Water Quality Protection Plan, Commonwealth Games 2018 bid, solar energy, search for the Centaur, job-creating building program, disaster relief, right to information, climate change, water, health and action plan, organ donation, and water fluoridation.
