Demiri (Greek, Modern: Δεμίρι) is a mountainous settlement in the municipal unit of Tegea, Arcadia, Greece. It is part of the community of Strigkos. As of 2001, it has a population of 99 and sits at 640 m above sea level.

Location

The GR-37/E961 (Tripoli - Sparta - Gytheio) is 2 km east via right in Kerasitsa. It is located 7 km south of Tripoli, WSW of Argos and north of Sparta.

The village has about 4 km of paved road, 3 km of gravel road and has about 4 km of hydro and phone lines.

Demiri has a church, a post office and a square (plateia). Its nearest school, lyceum (middle school) and gymnasium (secondary school) are in Stadio.

Geography and history

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate. Demiri became connected with asphalt in the 2000s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In the late 1990s the settlement joined to become the newly formed municipality of Tegea.
