Early life

Dean Anthony Gratton was born and grew up in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.[5] Gratton is the first of three children and has two younger sisters,[6] Lisa and Teresa. He attended High Street Primary School, Barry Comprehensive School,[7] Barry College and later Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff.

Career

One of Gratton's first jobs was at Barry Island Pleasure Park. He later started employment as a cook at the former Butlin's Barry Island holiday resort.[citation needed]

In 1989, he secured his first software engineering role with Coinmaster Manufacturing Limited (later Coinmaster Gaming Products Limited), Penarth Road, Cardiff, which entered into administrative receivership, March 2003.[8][9]

Gratton moved to Cambridge, England in the mid-1990s to further his career in software engineering. In 2000 Gratton became Editor[10] of the Specification of the Bluetooth Profiles v1.1, Part K:9 (the LAN Access Profile[11]) and in 2001 his work with Bluetooth wireless technology received a US patent.[12] Later that year, Gratton received a publishing contract for his first book titled Bluetooth Profiles: The Definitive Guide,[13] Prentice Hall (an imprint of Pearson Education) which was subsequently published in January 2003. He also participated in defining the initial Bluetooth Personal Area Networking (PAN) profiles, and was active in the Near Field Communication technology and marketing committees.[14]

Gratton studied for a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with the Open University and later in 2007 he received a Doctorate[15] in Telecommunications.

Gratton continues to write books on wireless communications[16][17] and he is also a columnist for Incisor.TV.[18][19]

Social media

Dean Anthony Gratton as portrayed in his book Zero to 100,000[20][21]

Gratton has become an influential social media persona (as @grattonboy) with an increasing Twitter[22] following and has been listed in the 50 “Top Dogs[23][24]” of Twitter (bullsandbeavers.com). Gratton co-authored the book, Zero to 100,000: Social Media Tips and Tricks for Small Businesses.[25] and in it, he discusses the effectiveness of utilizing Cross Platform Promotion (CPP) to ensure consistent[26][27] brand messaging across all social media platforms. CPP tools, such as TweetDeck and HootSuite help deliver consistency across all social media platforms.
