Murder

Kumari-Baker killed her daughters as they slept at her home in Stretham, Cambridgeshire using two kitchen knives. The attack took place at around 3:00 am on June 13, 2007.[2] She had taken the girls on a late night shopping trip beforehand to ensure they were tired and less likely to resist. Davinia, the oldest daughter, aged 16, was killed first, with Kumari-Baker stabbing her 37 times. Her body was found kneeling by the bed, suggesting she had tried to fight back. The younger daughter Jasmine, aged 13, was the second victim. She was stabbed 29 times with her body found in her bed.[3]

Legacy

Cambridgeshire County Council launched a serious case review to examine failings by social services in relation to the case. The panel was unable to "identify any reasonable actions that could have been taken to prevent their death" but did make a number of reconsiderations for social workers.[4]
