He moved into the senior game with Ayr United after his move from junior football from Ayrshire side Glenafton Athletic.
Gormley also had a loan spell with Albion Rovers.
Life and career
David stepped up from New Cumnock side Glenafton Athletic in the summer of 2008 when the Ayr United manager, Brian Reid, signed him to strengthen his attacking options. His signature eventually cost Ayr United the sum of £1750.[1] Gormley's most notable goal for Ayr United was scored at Stark's Park in Kirkcaldy against Raith Rovers, when he came off the bench to give Ayr the edge on the Second Division title, which The Rovers eventually won.[2]
In November 2009, Ayr United sent David Gormley out on loan to Third Division side Albion Rovers until the end of the year to gain experience.[3]
After his loan spell, Gormley was allowed to leave on a free transfer and sign for Alloa Athletic.[4]
Gormley spent the second half the 2010/11 season on loan to Elgin from Alloa. He was released by Alloa in May 2011.
